One of the first activities was K-Pop dance lesson to Bang Bang Bang... In a way I thought that the song was in bad taste considering current US events and that this event was in a church, but at the same time it used to be a very popular K-Pop song. Some of the event attendees were really good and the kids even enjoyed joining in.
For the next session people were broken into groups and had to make a social media video/dance to a popular K-Pop song. For the team I got put in I volunteered to be the videographer for my group. This was nice that they had things that people with disabilities could do to still be involved. To see the video check out Animal Time Today. I posted the video there since our song was fish related.
They had this area set up on the side. After the event they let people dress up in traditional Korean clothes and take pictures. There was also a language session set up like a travel session. It had basic phrases that the volunteers would act out and then they would bring up audience members to try and repeat the scene. They also had the words on the TV screens for people to try and read along. I've studied a few languages, and I will say that I felt like spoken Korean was harder to learn then Japanese.
My favorite session was the cooking lesson. They were trying to teach us how to make kimbap.
To speed things up they had all of the ingredients already cut. I will admit as an instructor, giving people knives or scissors can be scary.
The one thing they forgot to give us was some water to seal the edges so they kept opening. One person at our table was licking them like old time cigarettes to seal. I will post a more detailed post on the kimbap on In My Mouth Colorado blog.

After the cooking we all went back to the first room to hear who won prizes for the videos we made. My team was one of the teams to win a prize. Several people from our group had left by that time.
Then as a final thing the volunteers did a dance for us.This event was to help the group, International Youth Fellowship, get info out about their yearly trip to Korea. It's a really good price and I didn't feel any pressure like some of those travel presentations can give you. I did feel like this group was just working to build understanding between different cultures. They also talked about how they were going to be doing a movie night the next next night and also hosting a Korean Thanksgiving on Monday. I really wanted to go to the Korean Thanksgiving, but it was scheduled on a week/work night right during the height of rush hour. They should have had the Thanksgiving on Sunday so that more people could get to it. Overall this was a great free event and I would recommend other events by this group.
