Credentials (Work Experience)

Below is my work and volunteer experience that have helped me to build my insight into different cultural and JEDI related topics. I only include jobs here where that was their primary focus and not just dealing with people from those groups and communities where they are just a part of the larger population. If you look at the work experience of most people in  the DEI/JEDI/IDEA field they only have experience with people as a part of a larger population an not as a target focus of their scope of work. Also don't trust people that just have experience doing their own consulting unless they have other formal experience to back up their consulting. Also look at what they were doing before they got their first formal job in a DEI specific position. Did they have formal education in a DEI topic or just HR/other non-topic specific field. Did they at least have volunteer experience before they got that job. These are all things you need to look out for. For example, I already had my degree in anthropology with certification in Asian studies before I got my first full time job in a DEI specific position.

Geeked Colorado
Founder and Content Creator: April 2019-Present
Leads Geeked Colorado. Created articles for the blog that ranged anywhere from reviews (movies, cons, to products) to educational articles that looked not only at issues in the geek universe, but also took a dive into how JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) play into geek topics. Maintained and ran all social media including Facebook page and Instagram. Created videos/content for YouTube and TikTok channels. Ran geeky events like trivia, educational panels both online and at conventions, Pokemon Go Community Day get togethers, and volunteer events. Ran educational panels at conventions on different topics including those related to JEDI. Networked both within and outside of the geek community to create events and do activist work in the hope of making more safe places where geeks could be geeks.

Community College of Denver
• International Principal Designated School Official (PDSO): October 2021-June 2024

Provided oversight of records maintenance for international students in accordance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and college/system policies, procedures, and regulations; served as a liaison between students, DHS, Student Exchange Visitors Program (SEVP), faculty, and staff. Created events, activities, and workshops that meet the unique needs of international students and boosted retention of students by acclimating them to life in the U.S. Advocated for the international student population at all levels of the college and helped staff to understand the international student experience in relation to topics around diversity, equity, and inclusion. This also required expertise on other immigrant groups and visas since many students in other similar situations were funneled to the department eve though they were not on the F1 visa. Supervised the International Coordinator position.

FanExpo
Fan Meetups Fan Ambassador: July 2021-April 2022
Created and ran events every month to help build a stronger geek community and foster diversity in all its geeky forms. This is also linked to Geeked Colorado where I write on many topics within the geek community that apply to JEDI topics. The events also help to get the Fan Expo name out into the geek community for marketing purposes, and reminds people about the main convention throughout the year. I worked with partners in the community to arrange locations
and prizes for the events. Also found professionals in different fields to come as guest speakers to help educate people on different topics. Events ranged anywhere from Pokemon get-togethers, to themed trivia, to panel discussions, and others. (I actually left FanExpo when I found out that their support of different people in the community was only lip service and if standing up for those people could cost them money, they would rather have the money then support minorities in the community.)
